about

You don't need a big field to raise a big turnip."-- Joseph Howe

Big Turnips Volume 1 is a collection of 15 songs by 11 artists recorded between January and October 2017. All tracks were recorded at the Halifax Central Library Media Studio. Without them, this album may not have been possible and we send them a very BIG thank you. The songs and artists on this compilation come primarily from the Atlantic Canadian Region. Nova Scotia in particular. Some of these songs are over 10 years old. Some are relatively new, while one tune "Harbour Grace," is the oldest English song from the Province of Newfoundland and is perhaps over 300 years old. The goal with this compilation is to give a broad range of folk music from this corner of the world. We hope that this is only the beginning. We hope to bring you as many songs as we can. As many languages, as many song writers and songsters.

Many thanks,
Dylan and Stephen
